An Alternative Approach To Decontamination Of Beta-Lactam Antibiotic Residues With A Globally Available Disinfectant

ABSTRACT This paper presents a new approach for decontamination of non-product contact surfaces with a globally available quaternary ammonium (quat) disinfectant.  Laboratory studies included liquid and surface decontamination of various cephalosporin antibiotics.  This approach will drastically reduce the likeliness of corrosion caused by an acidified sodium hypochlorite solution and can be used daily.  The effectiveness of commonly used hydroxide or chlorinated hydroxide formulated detergents for cleaning and decontaminating non-penicillin beta-lactams from stainless-steel process...
